In direct response to the recent tragic events on film sets and theatre stages involving the use of firearms we are launching a new training module to offer a new start and benchmark regarding the knowledge and experience that performance industry professionals need to be able to offer a mutual assurance that when on set, firearms are not be a “New Experience” and all practitioners, cast and crew can feel safe and assured that there is an acceptable level of safe practice and competency.

The Practical Theatrical Firearms Course Applied for by Steen Young. BSR Stunt Coordinator.

In direct response to a request made by Steen Young ( BSR Stunt Coordinator), The practical Theatrical Firearms Course has been designed by the Managing Director of History in the Making Ltd. Using years of experience in the use of firearms in both film and theatre, Hamish MacLeod has designed a course to start with the fundamentals and progress to 'proof of ability’ exercise.

Engaging the companies qualified instructors and drawing on the company resources of History in the Making Ltd, the Practical theatrical Firearms Course, which is part of the History in the Making Training Portfolio, teaches training methods as used by the Armed Forces, Police and also Civilian Shooting Associations. All instructors have themselves been trained professionally and have served many years as Firearms Practitioners. All trainers have qualified to instructor level within this discipline.

The Armourers who service these training modules are long serving servants of the company and will supply section 1,2 and 5 firearms for each level of the training course.

The company has full Police and Home Office approval for the possession and use of all firearms associated with the Film and performance industry.

The courses are held at the headquarters of History in the making Ltd. Waterlooville, Hampshire,UK. A private, safe and secure environment.

Practical Theatrical firearms Course.

(PTFC)

Purpose.

To provide a structured and documented exercise to professional practitioners within the performance industry in the understanding and use of practical firearms in Film and theatre performance. To provide evidence of safe practice and a level of competency required in association to the use of practical firearms in Film and Theatrical performance.

Method.

A series of exercises to be undertaken by delegates under the direct supervision of a training staff who hold relevant qualifications and practical experience in the use of live and Blank Firing small arms.

Definition.

Practical Firearm.

A practical firearm is a weapon system or platform that is capable of discharging Live ammunition or Blank ammunition.
Training Staff.
A designated and employed servant of the company ,History in the Making Ltd (HitM Ltd) Identified by responsibility relating to a qualification.

Instructor.

A servant of the Company who has undergone live firing training through MOD or Police. Has qualified and has been a firearms practitioner. Has current RSO or equivalent certification through nationally recognised associations, for example NRA and Is a registered servant of the Company (HitM Ltd). Armourer. An employee of the company (HitM Ltd) with more than 5 years service. A registered servant of the Company with more than 5 years service. A practitioner who is legaly entitled to work under the cover of the Company Firearms License and insurance policy.

PTFC Level 1- Fundamentals ( For stunt and action performers )
PTFC Level 1- For Acting and performance students ( Degree and MA level )
PTFC Level 1- For Film and Theatre Professionals. (Law, Health and Safety, On set protocol)*

PTFC Level 2 - Advanced (For stunt and action performers )
PTFC Level 2 - Advanced (Degree, MA, Post Graduate level )

PTFC Level 3- Professional Performance Level (For stunt and action performers ) Vehicle pursuit, Deployment and extractions. 

PTFC ADVANCED PROFESSIONAL COURSES: Boat & helicopter deployment and extraction utilising SFX/Stunt department and film crew to create film & television scenarios. Includes sfx explosions, firing full front venting blank weapons systems and the practical boat/helicopter action.

PTFC Abseiling with Forced Building Entry. Abseiling, SFX explosions, flash bangs and utilising full front venting blank firearms systems during window entry.

*PTFC FIREARMS AWARENESS - LEVEL 1 - For Film and Theatre Professionals. (Law, Health and Safety, On set protocol)*.Open to professional individuals and bodies within the entertainment industry. Assistant Directors, Health and safety executives etc.  This course supplies the information on legal standings. The responsibilities of different departments when firearms are used on a production. The legal procedure if a accident occurs on a production and who can be held responsible. The practical use of firearms and the safeguards that should be put in place.
